A one-of-a-kind kimono robe, handcrafted in Tokyo by carefully remaking a single vintage kimono.

Styling

An open-front, relaxed silhouette. Wear it as a robe indoors or as an outer layer over a dress or one-piece when going out — a piece that bridges traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern styling.

About This Piece

  • Era: Mid-20th century vintage
  • Technique: Bingata (紅型)
  • Origin: Japan

Bingata (紅型) is a traditional Okinawan dyeing technique, said to have developed during the Ryukyu Kingdom era (around the 14th–15th century). Using hand-carved stencils, natural pigments are applied in many layered steps to create vivid colors and delicate designs inspired by nature — flowers, birds, and ocean waves. It is a dyeing technique that strongly reflects Okinawa's distinctive cultural heritage.

Sizing & Fit

  • Length: 133 cm / 52.4 in — floor-length
  • Shoulder Width: 63 cm / 24.8 in — relaxed, drop-shoulder fit
  • Sleeve Length: 33 cm / 13 in — three-quarter length
  • Body Width (laid flat): 58.5 cm / 23 in — generous, open-front silhouette
  • Weight: 927 g (approx. 2.04 lb)

Fit Guide

Designed to be worn as an outer layer over your outfit, this robe comfortably accommodates Women's US Size S–L (EU 36–42 / UK 8–14). The traditional Japanese silhouette drapes more loosely on smaller frames and looks more fitted on taller frames.

Note: Kimono and haori are not designed to fit the body closely like Western clothing, so the size range is only a guide. Refer to the measurements above for precision.

Model Reference

Model is 165 cm (5'5"). On her, the robe reaches the floor with a relaxed, draped silhouette.

Silk

Why This Piece Is One of a Kind

  • Hand-remade by artisans from a single vintage kimono — no two robes share the same pattern placement or construction.
  • The textile quality and weaving precision found in vintage kimono of this era are no longer commercially manufactured.
  • Each robe is carefully remade in Tokyo from a kimono selected piece by piece.
  • Once sold, this exact piece cannot be recreated.

Import Duties & Taxes

Customs duties, VAT, and clearance fees vary by destination country/region and product category, and are not included in the product price. We ship via EMS (Japan Post); in your destination country, delivery and customs handling are carried out by the local postal carrier. Any duties are assessed by your country's customs authority and may be payable on delivery. We recommend checking your country's customs authority (or an online import-duty estimator) for an estimate before purchase. We declare the full purchase value on all customs forms and cannot mark items as "gift" or undervalue them.

Returns

Because each piece is a one-of-a-kind vintage item, all sales are final. We can only accept returns in cases of significant transit damage or wrong-item shipment, reported with photos within 3 days of delivery.

Care & Notes

This piece is a delicate vintage item and should be handled with care. Due to the delicate nature of silk, it should not be washed in water. If needed, we recommend gently airing it in the shade in a well-ventilated area. Small stains, marks, loose threads, or fading from the original vintage kimono fabric may remain, but these are part of the history the fabric has carried.
