Size Guide
Every measurement shown on a product page is taken from that individual piece. This page explains where and how each measurement is taken.
All of our pieces are one of a kind. Even within the same style, measurements differ from piece to piece, so please check the measurements on the product page of the item you are considering.
Haori & Robe
Haori
Robe
Haori and robes are measured at the same points.
- Length: Measured flat, in a straight line from the top of the shoulder to the hem.
- Shoulder Width: Measured across the back, from one sleeve seam to the other.
- Sleeve Length: Measured from the sleeve seam to the edge of the sleeve opening.
- Body Width (laid flat): Measured flat from underarm to underarm. This is not a full circumference.
- Weight: The weight of the piece itself.
Haori and robe product pages also list a US / EU / UK size range. Kimono and haori are not designed to fit the body closely like Western clothing, so that range is only a guide.
Scarf
- Length: Measured flat from end to end.
- Width: Measured at the widest point.
- Weight: The weight of the piece itself.
Belt
- Total Length: The main section and the tied section combined (not marked on the diagram). Use this measurement to check whether the belt will wrap around your waist and tie.
- Main Section: From the end of the wide section to the point where the narrow tie begins.
- Tied Section: From where the narrow tie begins to its end.
- Width: Measured at the widest point of the main section.
- Weight: The weight of the piece itself.
Comparing with a piece you already own
The most reliable way to choose a size is to lay a similar piece from your own wardrobe flat and measure the same points.
- For haori and robes, comparing Length and Body Width gives you a good sense of how the piece will sit.
- Body Width is measured flat across one side. To compare it with a chest circumference, double the body width.
- For belts, use Total Length rather than the main section, since the belt needs to wrap around your waist and tie.
About vintage, one-of-a-kind sizing
- Each piece is remade by hand from a vintage kimono. Even within the same style, measurements vary depending on the original garment.
- Our pieces do not correspond to modern ready-to-wear sizing (S / M / L). Please refer to the measurements on each product page.
- Kimono and haori are not cut to follow the body. The same piece drapes more loosely on smaller frames and appears more fitted on taller frames.
- All measurements are listed in both cm and inches.
