About This Piece
- Era: Mid-20th century vintage
- Technique: Shibori (絞り染め)
- Origin: Japan
Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique. Sections of the silk are hand-bound, folded, or stitched before dyeing, creating intricate undyed patterns. Examples of Shibori dyeing are preserved among the 8th-century Shōsōin treasures in Nara, making it one of Japan's oldest documented textile techniques. A single piece can take weeks to complete, and the distinctive three-dimensional texture cannot be replicated by machine — it emerges naturally from the binding process itself.

Designed to be worn open over your outfit, this haori comfortably accommodates Women's US Size S–L (EU 36–42 / UK 8–14). The traditional Japanese silhouette drapes more loosely on smaller frames and more fitted on taller frames.
Note: Kimono-style garments are sized for loose layering rather than tailored fit, so the size range is approximate. Refer to the cm / inch measurements above for precision.
