More Freedom, More Ease: Short-Length Yukata

More Freedom, More Ease: Short-Length Yukata

Yukata add color to the Japanese summer.

While they are beautiful, we’ve heard feedback from international visitors such as:

“The hem is too long, making it difficult to wear,”

“It’s a bit too challenging to put on by myself.”

That’s why at Shibuya Tsumugi, we’ve created “short-length yukata” with a shorter hem so that international visitors can enjoy wearing yukata more easily.

With a standard yukata, you fold up the long hem at the waist to create an “ohashori” and adjust it to fit your height.

However, for those encountering Japanese kimono culture for the first time, this process can be a bit challenging.

That’s why we’ve designed the yukata itself to be an easy-to-wear length, minimizing complex adjustments and creating a yukata that’s easier to wear and lets you express your own style.

Because it’s short, it feels light and airy around your feet.

We recommend pairing it with sneakers, sandals, or boots to coordinate your look as if you were wearing Western-style clothing.

What we value isn’t just preserving tradition as it is.

It’s about passing kimonos and yukatas on to the future in a form that people living today can enjoy.

It’s not about “having to wear it correctly,” but rather,

It doesn’t have to be about “I must wear it correctly”;

it’s okay for Japanese culture to start with “I want to try wearing it!”

Precisely because Shibuya is a city where cultures and fashions from around the world converge, we want to propose new ways to enjoy the yukata.

Traditional, but more free.

Japanese, but made for everyone.

Why not enjoy the yukata in your own unique style this summer?
